The different game modes available in PUBG are:

  • Solo: You against 99 other players. Be the last one standing to win.
  • Duo: Play the match with a two-player team. Revives are possible.
  • Squad: Play with up to 4 players. This mode requires strong teamwork and coordination. Generally, more team players increase the chances of winning.
  • Ranked Mode: Competitive matches with skill-based matchmaking.
  • Custom Games: Host private matches with custom rules among friends.
  • Arcade Modes: Only available on Mobile- Team Deathmatch, Quick Match, War Mode, etc.

In Battle Royale, 100 players are dropped on a large map with a parachute. You choose when and where to parachute out. The main goal of the game is to be the last person standing while fighting off enemies and avoiding the shrinking safe zone. The game can be played in TPP (Third Person Perspective) or in FPP (First Person Perspective). There are several weapons, vehicles, supplies and armour available at different places on the map. Weapon, vehicle and character skins can be acquired from the store and missions. Each map is designed to offer a unique gameplay experience, and mastering it requires different strategies.

  • Erangel: Eastern European island with forests, cities, and fields (provides a balanced gameplay).
  • Miramar: Desert map (provides long sightlines and sparse cover).
  • Sanhok: Dense and tropical location (fast-paced action).
  • Vikendi: Snowy terrain with moderate vegetation and urban areas.
  • Taego: Korean-inspired terrain.
  • Deston: Urban map with zip lines and water mechanics.

Some examples of vehicles available in the game are jeeps, motorcycles, boats, armoured trucks, buses, etc. These vehicles can be used to travel long distances and escape the shrinking of the safe zone safely and quickly. They are also used as a cover to block enemies.

Monetization

The base version is available for free on all platforms and devices. Premium upgrades, which are only available on consoles, cost $12.99 USD. This upgrade grants access to Ranked mode, bonus character cosmetics, more survival mastery XP and 1300 G-coins (which is the premium currency of the game). The G-coins (acquired through real money) can be used to buy stylish outfits, weapon and vehicle camos, emotes and to open lucky draws.

PUBG offers an in-game battle pass for $10 USD. It typically lasts about 8–10 weeks per season. Through this, players get character skins, weapon camos, G-Coin, XP boosts and BP (which is the in-game currency).

The game is widely considered not to be pay-to-win. All the available paid items are cosmetic (many of which can still be earned via progression and events).

Tips and Tricks

  • During the start, try to avoid hot-drop zones (like Pochinki, School, and Bootcamp). The preferred location to parachute for longer survival is on the edges of the map.
  • For pickables, follow the order: weapon > armour > healing > attachments > throwables.
  • Always carry one weapon for long-range and one quick weapon for shorter targets.
  • Smoke grenades are very useful.
  • Use headphones to keep track of footsteps, gunshots, and vehicle sounds that give away enemy positions.
  • The best weapon for recoil control is an M416 with attachments, as well as AUG and Vector.
  • Always park vehicles facing away from your escape route in case of a quick exit.
  • Try to take higher ground before engaging with the enemy, as it offers better visibility and cover options.
  • Stay near the edge of the safe zone (avoid being surrounded).
  • Practice shoulder peek + crouch combinations to surprise enemies.
  • Using a 4-finger (claw) setup is better to separate aiming, movement, and shooting controls.
  • In case of team matches, don’t stay huddled together. Also, for revives, always revive behind cover and smoke.

Experts' Corner

During your game, focus on survival rather than the number of kills. Don’t chase fights unless you're confident of winning. Strategy wins even in great wars.

PUBG has become a popular game among the youth. However, the increase in its popularity also increased the number of addiction and accident reports. Asian countries like China, India, Pakistan and Iraq have banned playing the game. Numerous incidents of individuals playing PUBG while driving have occurred, which have led to fatal accidents. Playing the game for long hours can cause severe health problems. The game increases mental aggression and incidents of physical fights between friends or family members over gaming time or restrictions.

Practice precaution while playing. Sudden changes in sleep, eating or social habits are the result of game addictions. If you are unable to control and show health symptoms such as depression, anxiety, insomnia, body weakness, etc, don't forget to consult professionals.
