Hogwarts Legacy

Overview

Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action RPG developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games in 2023. This game allows players to experience life as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, embarking on a journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world. The game is available on macOS, Windows, Nintendo switch, Xbox and on Playstation.

Gameplay

The game is set in 1890 (a century before the events of the Harry Potter series). The player assumes the role of a fifth-year student. The headmaster of the game’s timeline is Phineas Nigellus Black. Throughout the game, players encounter various characters, including Professor Eleazar Fig, who guides them in mastering their magical abilities. The villains of the game include Ranrok (leader of the goblin rebellion) and Victor Rookwood (a dark wizard). Hogwarts Legacy enables players to explore locations such as Hogwarts Castle, Hogsmeade Village, the Forbidden Forest and the surrounding Scottish Highlands. The key gameplay features are as follows:

Players can customise their character's appearance, select their Hogwarts house (Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff), and develop their magical skills.
The game features a dynamic combat system. It allows players to learn and use a variety of spells to defeat enemies and solve puzzles to proceed further in the game.
Players can encounter and interact with magical beasts, some of which can be tamed and used as mounts.
Room of Requirement: A customizable space where players can brew potions, grow magical plants, and upgrade their gear.
Due to the game's success, Warner Bros. has announced plans for a sequel to the game and aims to expand the Wizarding World gaming universe. In addition to this, a new game titled Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is in development, which focuses on the magical sport.

Tips and Tricks

First, explore the game places and venues like dungeons, Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest, etc., to uncover hidden objects, chests, and pages.
Use Accio, Lumos, and Levioso to collect special pages, which help to level up your wizard/witch.
Complete Merlin Trials to expand your gear inventory.
Dodge red halo attacks.
Don’t spam one spell. Alternate between combos to maximise damage (e.g., Accio + Incendio or Levioso + Basic Attacks + Depulso).
Don’t forget to sell useless and excess gear.
Use the Nab-Sack to capture magical creatures from the wild. You can sell those animals at Hogsmeade or keep them in Vivariums for resources like Mooncalf Fur or Thestral Hair.
Always carry Wiggenweld potions. Upgrade its potency via the talent tree under the Room of Requirement.
Use Chinese Chomping Cabbages and Mandrakes during tough battles.
The wand core has no impact on gameplay.
Some puzzles or NPCs only activate during specific times.
Focus on Core and Dark Arts talents, such as Swift (dodge teleport), Stupefy mastery (adding stun damage), and Disarming curse.

Experts' Corner

During Boss fights, collecting ancient magic Hotspots is useful. After unlocking new spells (such as Incendio, Alohomora, and Wingardium Leviosa), come back to the old locations where you will be able to access previously blocked chests and secrets. The Unforgivable Curses, like Avada Kedavra, Imperio and Crucio, unlock special talents in the Dark Arts tree and are extremely powerful.

After completing the game, choose a different Hogwarts House for unique common rooms and some minor quest changes. You may also choose a complete Dark or Light wizard build. For advanced players, enabling hard mode will make the enemies more aggressive and increase the complexity of potion management.
